An event of the Rheinisches Archiv fuer Kuenstlernachlaesse (RAK) in cooperation with the Archivberatungs-, und Fortbildungszentrum des Landschaftsverbandes Rheinland (LVR)
(Archive advice, and continuing education center of the district association Rheinland)

September 15, 2011 – LVR-Kulturzentrum Abtei Brauweiler, Pulheim  –  10:00 am–5:00 pm

The legacies of artists contain a variety of material from their creative process, among them also documentation of daily life (letters, diaries, insight into their households or their travel, etc.) which could illuminate the context of their artistic output. The family, friends and acquaintances and also external trustees often face the problem of sorting through and evaluating such material until a “legacy” has been found to be of enough value, as to do honor to the artist and human being. Many of these questions will be studied with a view towards acquisition and financial value and usefulness (usability).  There certainly exist more than one theory on the treatment of the oeuvre legacy and the collection of personal documents.  The related problems will be discussed in a joint workshop.  In connection with the event, the Rheinisches Archiv fuer Kuenstlernachlaesse (RAK) holds an exhibit with examples from its collections.
