The archive of Dietmar Schneider from Cologne is of outstanding importance for the Rhenish art scene. As a photographer, freelance art mediator and publisher of an art magazine for Cologne and the region, Schneider was in contact on several levels with a large number of visual artists since the second half of the 1960s, some of whom are today among the outstanding heads of the German art scene. He had a lifelong friendship with Joseph Beuys. Dietmar Schneider supported Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter and Günther Uecker among others in their early days. He captured all the artists and many of their activities in photographs. Photos were taken in studios, exhibitions, art actions and private areas.

In the exhibition, all sides of his activities are shown with the help of original documents. It provides a vivid insight into Dietmar Schneider's life as a photographer, art mediator, publisher of editions and editor of the cultural scene magazine "Kölner Skizzen". Over the years of his work, Schneider built up a very extensive written archive, which, together with his photographs, is now housed in the Rheinisches Archiv für Künstlernachlässe.
